Favorite Things: June

Kickstarter
Want to help put a TARDIS in to orbit? Well the funding project ends on Saturday so hurry up and check it out! They're doing it for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who! It's already met its goal, so it's going to happen (YES!) but if you want your name involved or some other cool perk click on the link and back the project!
Books
I've been reading a lot lately (not surprising) and am looking for other stuff that I wouldn't usually read. Thanks to this flowchart from Upworthy and 14 Books To Read Before They Hit The Big Screen from Buzzfeed, I now have plenty to occupy my time with. Yay, books!

Makeup
Espionage Cosmetics is a makeup company based in the US that has some really awesome makeup collections with a geek/cosplay fan base in mind, but they're so cool it doesn't matter if you're in to geeky stuff or not! The Geeky Hostess (blogger, youtuber, etc.) recently came out with her own line that you can win! Click here to go to her giveaway post. The colors you buy are a base that can be mixed with their other makeups so you can use them on your hair, eyes, lips, etc! Some can also be purchased from ThinkGeek, so stock up on stuff (like the lamp below) and save on shipping!
Espionage Cosmetics Color Collections
Home Stuff
I found this by watching Liam Dryden's latest Youtube video. You can win it- watch the video to see how. But if you feel like you need it now instead of hoping to win, you can get it from ThinkGeek (they have the best geek stuff, I'm addicted). You can change the lamp around (just like Tetris) and each piece you add to the lamp lights up! I need this in my life.

I Was Scared by a Doll

I was babysitting yesterday and apparently my niece felt that her baby doll needed to take a nap... in my bed. She forgot about it and I was a bit startled when I went in to my room later and looked over to see a baby staring at me. I may have said something like "what the hell?" but I can't remember because it scared me so much my mind blanked for a couple of seconds.

I've been slightly afraid of dolls ever since I saw about 2 minutes of Chucky when I was a kid. Don't mock my fears... Chucky was horrifying. So much so that I put all of my dolls in a garbage bag and made my parents hide them in the basement. And that was the end of my wanting to play with dolls ever again. And that was also when I realized my dad was bad at making me feel less scared about stuff like that. I'll have to tell you that story at another time... it's awesome and terrible.

Don't Complain You're Going to Ruin it!

I saw an article on USA Today about One Million Moms being upset over the new Kraft ad. I think it's for salad dressing but I'm not really sure because I was distracted by manliness. But it's for something Kraft so I get the idea.

"Zesty Guy"
This is a marketing strategy I can appreciate

I'm just happy it's not another naked woman. I mean, that seems pretty typical to have a scantily clad woman trying to sell a product but this is something us females can appreciate. Women need some eye candy too, so stop complaining because they'll stop with these kinds of ads and I don't want them to! You're going to ruin it for all of us!

But this is also the organization that complained about JCPenney choosing Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson. There are worse things to start complaining about. We're objectifying men for once! Let's celebrate!

Now I'm going to go buy anything Kraft because just looking at him makes me want to purchase stock or something. Also, they got me to mention and think about Kraft more than I would have otherwise. Clever... sneaky and clever.

I Want ALL THE THINGS

This isn't a real post, but I saw this and thought I'd share. There are so many cool things on sale from Think Geek that I want to buy. You can get some stuff for as little as $3! I'm only posting this because I can't buy it all myself and I'm sharing the geek love.
Seriously though, I want ALL THE THINGS!
Ends June 28th!

Pinotized by Food: Bacon Ranch Chicken

If you read my post from Wednesday you'll know that I'm feeling... not quite like myself. Also, I want to eat any food that sounds good. Which is actually a good segue into what I'm focusing on- food! Or, more specifically, recipes. I'm constantly on Pinterest looking for recipes, as one does when one is Pinotized (hypnotized by Pinterest).

This is one of my favorite Pinterest recipes. If you like chicken, bacon, ranch and not putting a lot of effort in to cooking, this recipe is great!

 Picture and recipe from

I've adjusted this recipe a bit to make it more fattening. For the original (slightly healthier) recipe click the link above.

Crock Pot Bacon Ranch Chicken
Ingredients:
2 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled (ha! Who are they kidding? Load it up with as much bacon as you want! Make an extra piece of bacon so you can eat it... because bacon.)
1 tsp minced garlic
1 (1 oz) packet dry ranch dressing mix
1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1 lb. chicken breasts (can be frozen or defrosted)
8 oz. of your favorite pasta, cooked (I like penne)

My addition: Add mushroom slices and diced green onion for more deliciousness (if you like that kind of thing)

Directions:
Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray and place chicken in the crock pot.
Mix the bacon, garlic, ranch dressing mix, soup, and sour cream together and pour over the top of the chicken. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6 hours. Shred chicken with two forks. Cook pasta as directed on package and serve chicken over pasta.

I usually put the chicken in frozen (and cook for 6 hours on low) because it's less work for me. Yay laziness! Enjoy!

Superman!

I got to see Man of Steel yesterday! I was skeptical because I've never been a big fan of Superman movies or TV shows... to me they always seem to fall short. But this? I actually liked it. It also didn't hurt that he's ridiculously good looking. Especially with the facial hair. And shirtless.

There were so many moments I liked- getting to see him grow up in flashbacks was great because it's touching and it was nice to get his backstory and to see Krypton. Seeing that much of Krypton was good for the story background and understanding a little bit more about the characters. The bad guy is bad but you kind of get why. You get to see what a good guy Clark is and I love that about him. The acting is good, which is nice for a Superman movie.

A lot of the movie is Clark/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) figuring out who he is and what kind of man he wants to be. It's also about his Earth dad Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and mom (Diane Lane) helping him through what has to be a tough time for a kid. As if puberty isn't bad enough, he knows he has to be in control of himself because he has this power. He has to be the better man and walk away. I loved that about him even though it would be difficult.

Clark's connection with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) is... friendly? I'm not sure if that's the word I want to use. But he saves her. A lot. She falls quite a bit. But they become friends before he puts on the suit so it's nice that she didn't just see him as Superman and suddenly get interested. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give it away.

The action is pretty awesome, but I did think to myself that there was a ridiculous amount of destruction and I wondered how in the hell they would rebuild Metropolis. Seriously... a lot of destruction. And poor Superman! The action was nonstop near the end so he couldn't really catch a break.

Overall a lot of action and good story telling and very entertaining. Plus, Superman is hot. Go see it!
