Favorite Things: May (Zombies!)

I find my recent obsession with all things zombie strange considering that just 2 years ago I admitted my irrational fear of zombies in this blog post. Oh, how things have changed. Maybe my overexposure has lessened my fear? Either way, I'm glad I have many sources for zombie entertainment. The stuff I talk about in this blog post are some of my favorites!

Apps
Zombies, Run! I have talked about this app many times before, but I just FINALLY finished season 1 and am about to start Season 2. I am more excited about running than I have even been in my life... and I was in Track all through Middle & High School. I even tweeted about it!

Books
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion and World War Z by Max Brooks are excellent sources for zombie literature. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen/Seth Grahame-Smith takes a classic and makes it even better with zombie killing action and (bonus) ninjas!

Movies
I'm so excited that I finally bought Zombieland! It's one of my favorite zombie movies because it combines zombies (obviously) and comedy. Shaun of the Dead also falls in to this category. Laughing makes me feel a little less scared... barely. The Resident Evil movies are also some of my favorites! But obviously more scary than the other movies mentioned.

Web Series
Versus Valerie even recently did a zombies episode. If you haven't seen this series yet I'd suggest you do. It's entertaining and funny with a lot of nerd culture references.

The Walking Dead
Games
Walking Dead by Telltale Games is one of those new gamey thingys that uses your choices to steer the game. I had a hard time making choices knowing that someone would die because of it. I have a hard enough time being decisive but now you're adding death, Game!? Mental torture! But fun mental torture so it's not horrible. The little girl is so cute and I loved her.

Comic
This is what started all of the walking dead phenomenon and the magical things that came from it! It's very well done and I loves it!

Where it all began...

TV
If you haven't seen the show yet you're missing so much! Luckily (if you have Netflix- if not, get the 1st month for FREE) seasons 1 & 2 are available to watch on instant streaming! Hopefully Season 3 will be available before season 4 starts because I missed it. We didn't have cable until half way through the season and I didn't want to start late. *I WILL catch up before season 4 starts!

*I know you couldn't hear it but that was some very determined typing! I'm serious about this!

Did I miss anything you think should be included? Comment and let me know!

2 Years of Awesome!

My blog is 2 today! If my blog was a baby it would be able to walk and say words and stuff... it would also be neglected because I don't post stuff every day so I'd probably have it taken away. But luckily this blog isn't a baby because I don't want to go to jail. *Reminder: Don't neglect your babies.

A lot (meaning nothing major) has changed on this blog over 2 years. I changed the layout multiple times and I bought a domain name and almost got serious about this. And recently I got a PO box (more serious-er). Next thing you know I'll be blogging every day and going to conferences and stuff... ha! Conferences cost more than I feel comfortable spending.

I decided to combine my book blog and this one to save myself the fee for domain name registration... and it just made more sense I suppose. Then I could just give people one website for both! And now I have business cards for some reason. It even says "blogger" under my name. This makes me laugh. I can't say for sure why.

I'm grateful anyone even bothers to read anything I've written. I'd still write this if nobody read it, but it makes me feel like I'm not just talking to myself if someone does. I do enough of that already! So thank you! You're helping to keep me (somewhat) sane!

I Live in the Twilight Zone

I never know what to expect with the weather around here. It was nice one day and a blizzard the next and then back to nice the next day again. I have proof.

Yes, those are the actual dates and no, the pictures have not been altered in any way. Not even instagram. It's a side by side comparison of my back yard taken just under 24 hours apart.

Tomorrow we're probably going to skip summer and go straight to fall. You never know around here. Hopefully the weather where you are is a little less bipolar. Have a nice day!

Mother's Day

Before Mother's Day ends I just wanted to make a quick note to say that "I love you, Mom!"

And even though I'm not a mom yet (not due to a lack of trying, but it's apparently still not that time for me) I still have kids (a niece and 2 nephews) in my life that I would do anything for. And even though it makes me a little sad that the circumstances of my life haven't allowed it, I hope some day to be driven crazy by kids of my own.

This Batman Cup is Not a Toy

So I got an awesome new Batman cup the other day and yesterday I enjoyed it's amazingness at being a cup while I drank sweet tea out of it and read a book. It was warm out and I was happy.

Proof
But before I used the cup I noticed something odd on the sticker...

This cup is "NOT A TOY"
Why is THAT important enough to tell people? Do people sometimes use cups as toys and then get mad about it being broken? How would that call go?

Yes, I would like to complain about this cup I bought. I was playing football with it and it shattered when I spiked it! What kind of sham operation are you running?

These are things that go through my head.

Dolls Are Creepy

Don't look at me!
From Goodwill's Nightmare Section
Now, I know Halloween decorations are supposed to be creepy, but what is up with these? The bald one is especially creepy looking. Where did it's hair and hat go? I don't know why I find dolls so unsettling but it's been a thing for as long as I can remember. Of course, this could have something to do with that Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode where the girl is stuck in a doll house and starts to turn in to a doll. I mean, she's shrunk down. It's not like she tried to fit in and it didn't work. It was a good episode!

A friend gave me a porcelain clown when I was a kid and I wanted to cry. She was trying to be nice but crazy nightmare clown! I don't know what I ended up doing with it. I think I hid it somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my closet so I wouldn't have to look at it ever again. It could still be at my parent's house. That was about 20 years ago now and I still don't ever want to see it again. But if I do it's going in a fire.

I Don't Want To Do What I Should Be Doing

I have this thing that I do where I don't do the stuff I should be doing. Or as normal people call it, procrastination. I'm really good at it too. If procrastination was a sport... I'd probably procrastinate procrastinating because they it would be something I'm supposed to do (or not do?). This is getting confusing. Also, my twitter bio says I'm "Procrastinator Extraordinaire" so you know it's for reals.

A lot of the time I procrastinate with the internet. Tumblr and Pinterest enable me to wander the interwebs for hours. Of course, when I'm on the internet I should probably work on blog posts. But do I? Of course not. I don't know why I'm like this and I'm not going to put that much thought in to it. It's probably something I should work on to better myself but, you know, that would require work or whatever.

I feel like I should post blogs on a regular schedule but I'm not one of those people who can think of clever things to say 5 days a week or even have stories to tell that often without getting repetitive. Daily stories would be like "I ate ____ today! And then I went to bed! Oh look a bird!" Which is basically twitter... or instagram if I include pictures. And I just don't want to participate in that kind of douche baggery. You're welcome.
