Favorite Things: May (Zombies!)

I find my recent obsession with all things zombie strange considering that just 2 years ago I admitted my irrational fear of zombies in this blog post. Oh, how things have changed. Maybe my overexposure has lessened my fear? Either way, I'm glad I have many sources for zombie entertainment. The stuff I talk about in this blog post are some of my favorites!

Apps
Zombies, Run! I have talked about this app many times before, but I just FINALLY finished season 1 and am about to start Season 2. I am more excited about running than I have even been in my life... and I was in Track all through Middle & High School. I even tweeted about it!

Books
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion and World War Z by Max Brooks are excellent sources for zombie literature. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen/Seth Grahame-Smith takes a classic and makes it even better with zombie killing action and (bonus) ninjas!

Movies
I'm so excited that I finally bought Zombieland! It's one of my favorite zombie movies because it combines zombies (obviously) and comedy. Shaun of the Dead also falls in to this category. Laughing makes me feel a little less scared... barely. The Resident Evil movies are also some of my favorites! But obviously more scary than the other movies mentioned.

Web Series
Versus Valerie even recently did a zombies episode. If you haven't seen this series yet I'd suggest you do. It's entertaining and funny with a lot of nerd culture references.

The Walking Dead
Games
Walking Dead by Telltale Games is one of those new gamey thingys that uses your choices to steer the game. I had a hard time making choices knowing that someone would die because of it. I have a hard enough time being decisive but now you're adding death, Game!? Mental torture! But fun mental torture so it's not horrible. The little girl is so cute and I loved her.

Comic
This is what started all of the walking dead phenomenon and the magical things that came from it! It's very well done and I loves it!

Where it all began...

TV
If you haven't seen the show yet you're missing so much! Luckily (if you have Netflix- if not, get the 1st month for FREE) seasons 1 & 2 are available to watch on instant streaming! Hopefully Season 3 will be available before season 4 starts because I missed it. We didn't have cable until half way through the season and I didn't want to start late. *I WILL catch up before season 4 starts!

*I know you couldn't hear it but that was some very determined typing! I'm serious about this!

Did I miss anything you think should be included? Comment and let me know!

  1. I also loved the Warm Bodies movie (admittedly, I hadn't read the book first but the movie is one of my top 5 Zombie movies of all time).

You missed Fido, though! Fido is one of the best zombie movies of all time because 1) It has Billy Connolly in it 2) It's unique spin on the zombie genre 3) BILLY CONNOLLY. (Also, filmed in Canada so ,WOOO!)

Also, if you've never seen Last Man on Earth (starring Vincent Price), you must! It's zombies are sort of zombie/vampires (not that they suck blood, but they don't like mirrors and garlic). It's based off the same novel as I Am Legend but it's better because 1) Vincent Price, 2)Better ending and 3)Reasons 1 and 2 again

    1. I haven't seen the Warm Bodies movie yet but I plan on renting it when it comes out. I loved the book!

I've never seen Fido, though I've thought about renting it from time to time. Something about it scared me away... not sure what really. I'll have to check it out!

I have seen Last Man on Earth and Vincent Price is an excellent reason to watch it. I loved the book I Am Legend, but they were more vampires than anything else. The Will Smith movie of I Am Legend was more creepy scary-fast zombies.
