Well That Was a Disaster

I would like to apologize to anyone who had to stand behind me in line at the store today. One half of it was my fault, the other half was computer error, but I apologize for all of it anyway.

Have you ever had one of those "I should just go back to bed and start the day over because what is happening" kind of days? Because I did today.

I was on my lunch break so I decided to get stuff so I wouldn't have to do it after work. I didn't need much so I wandered around for a bit after I grabbed what I needed. After waiting in line for what felt like forever behind an old lady who argued over the price of shoe laces, I finally could check out. Much to my horror I discovered that my debit card was no longer in my wallet nor was the cash I got out of the ATM the night before. I am awesome, I left both of those very necessary things in my coat pocket... that was hanging in my house.

Embarrassed, I apologized and had her set the stuff aside for me and got out of line. I was going to just leave, but then my husband called and during that call reminded me that people still use checkbooks. I completely forgot about the checkbook... so I had to get back in line again behind another old lady who couldn't decided what kind of cigarettes she wanted.

By the time she brought up my stuff again I had my check ready to go. Then only thing left to do was sign the electronic thingy but when I went to sign it... it died. Then I had to wait for it to reboot. After 5 minutes the lady working the register was like, "I'll just have you sign the actual slip!" Why was that not an option when it first died?!

The lesson here is to not get behind me at the store because apparently I'm as bad as an old lady. I am not proud of this.

Favorite Things: April/March

So I may have forgotten about this last month because I'm forgetful and easily distracted and busy because I have a job and actually do things with my days now.

Online Stuff
In my previous Favorite Things I forgot to mention Lifescouts. Watch the video for an explanation of what Lifescouts is because I'm too lazy to type in all of the information.

I may not like Alex Day (aka nerimon on YouTube) sometimes (because he does have occasional dickishness... which I mostly enjoy watching), but he did have a good idea.

Web Series
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome

I've heard that there were people who didn't like this that were big fans of the show, but I loved it!

Chronicles of Syntax

This is a pretty cool series on The Multiverse channel on youtube. The first season just ended, so there are 6 (about half hour long) episodes available to view. I donated to their Indiegogo to fund this series and I was more than pleased with the outcome. I hope there will be a season 2!

Games
Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is awesome! I'm not usually one for games that involve a lot of shooting (I get ascared), but I REALLY like this one. Part of it is because the weapons are easy to use/aim and I don't find myself turning in circles trying to aim at something. Nothing more satisfying than taking the bad guys out with a headshot from my long bow. (That seems a little sadistic, I apologize.) The scenery is beautiful and the animation is spectacular. All around fun game.

Movies
Django Unchained
If you are squeamish and are grossed out by blood and violence, this isn't something you should watch. But if you don't mind it (or can get past it), this is a really good movie. I loved Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz in this! Seeing Leonardo DiCaprio as a bad guy was a little strange, but he pulled it off well. I may or may not have wanted to seriously hurt him... *hint: I did* After watching this I understand why it won so many awards. Quentin Tarantino is a genius... a crazy, violence fueled genius.

Shopping
Etsy
I've been spending a lot of time on Esty lately. Mostly to buy gamer/comic type girly stuff. I recently purchased a scarf from Handmade Reverie and it looks awesome. If I'm looking for original, geeky accessories that will make friends jealous, etsy is the place to look for them.

Know of something I should check out for next month? Leave suggestions in the comments!

Evil Doesn't Win

After the Boston bombings yesterday, I have mixed feelings. Part of me feels like the world is falling apart and that things are terrible; the other part feels inspired by those people who rushed in to help those who were hurt.

The thing is, there will always be bad people out there who are going to hurt others for whatever reason. But there are also people who are inherently good and will, without thought, help those in need. I am sad about what happened. I am sad for the people who were hurt. I am sad for the people who died and for their family and friends. But I am grateful that we, as human beings, can overcome sadness and terrible situations and stand together.

It does not matter where we are from or if we don't believe in the same God (or any God at all). Humanity as a whole can come together and care for each other. We can come together and crush out the bad. The good in people can help heal what the bad has caused. Evil doesn't win and I am thankful for that.

How Does One Go About Getting One of Those "Lives"?

I feel a little inadequate when I read other people's blogs. It seems like they have more stuff going on than I do. It must be because I rarely leave my house unless work or food is involved. And I live in a small rural area so there really isn't anything to do. When the biggest past time is the bowling alley or mini-golf and the thing everyone is currently excited about is getting a Buffalo Wild Wings, things aren't looking up.

I suppose I could travel but that requires money. This might be a good time to plug for sponsorships... Pick me for something because if you don't I'll have to go to the 60 year old BOWLING ALLEY! Again! Haven't I suffered enough? If you don't sponsor me for something I may take up drinking to pass the time and my future liver failure will be your fault! Can you live with yourself knowing you gave me liver damage? Can you? I won't be able to afford the good stuff either. I'll fall apart from $4 vodka like some crazy binge drinking nightmare. Nobody deserves to be forced to drink $4 vodka. I should put that on a shirt or something. Maybe that will be my new motto.

I'll even give you a sample of how good I am at making stuff sound good.

"Visit this site! It's better than $4 vodka!"

Which, lets face it, what isn't better than $4 vodka? It's not like I'm lying. But if it's something I really like I can say that it's better than the most expensive vodka in the liquor store. And if they don't like vodka, it's even better because it's basically saying it's way better than vodka. It's a win win! Why are you not requesting to sponsor me yet? Really, it's like I'm a genius.

It's true that's why it works
Please sponsor me and give me a life. Or maybe just send me something cool. Seriously, I'd be happy as long as it's better than $4 vodka and liver damage.

Book Giveaway!

I'm giving away a copy of Looking for Alaska on my book blog! Check it out!

Dinosaurs!

Last night I made my husband go with me to see Jurassic Park... in 3D! Normally I would not pay to see a movie that I already own, but this is Jurassic Park we're talking about here! One of my favorite movies! Exclamation points!!!

Yes, I own it and yes, I've seen it over 20 times (I'm guessing here) but I was about 9 when the movie came out so my parents wouldn't let me watch it. Good thing, too or I would have been terrified. So when I FINALLY got to watch it I watched it on VHS. I'm old school. Watching it at home is not as good as watching it on a huge screen with surround sound (obvious statement is obvious).

This set comes with a Blu-Ray and Digital copy PLUS the T-rex statue thingy. I mostly just want the T-rex. Awesome!

I was glad I got to see it. It was a bit of nostalgia for me.

In Which I Tell Winter to Get Lost

Dear Winter,

I am glad that you enjoyed your time here, but now I have to ask that you move on. It would be best for both of us. I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy having you around for a while, but really I’ve just been putting up with you since the New Year. I would say this is difficult for me but that would be a lie. I really can’t even stand to look at you anymore. One glance at you has started to make me ill. I know it sounds harsh, but the fact that you will most likely be back in 6-7 months should ease your pain. But if I want to get rid of you that means I have to move. I hope you realize how unfair that is.

You have overstayed your welcome, winter.
I would say that I hope to never see you again but I know it isn't possible for me. You are welcome to return for Christmas. Until then, goodbye.

Laura
