Guilty Pleasures- TV Shows

I like a TV show that I'm kind of ashamed to admit... Paranormal State. I'll be honest, I'm not really sure why I like this show so much.

I don't know why I like you...

It's like when you're in a relationship in Middle School with someone even though you aren't really sure if you like them or not. You get along OK but you aren't impressed by them and you spend a lot of time trying to figure out what made you agree to the relationship in the first place. Plus they're a little weird and at times they creep you out.

I like to try to debunk stuff. I like to see what stuff they can capture. I like to see the houses of the people on the shows... one I saw recently could have been on Hoarders. Plus some people are just plain crazy and that makes it more fun to watch.

Whatever the reason, I guess I'll keep watching until I run out of episodes to watch on Netflix... or I cancel my account. Whichever comes first.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I can appreciate the history of V-Day and that it's meant to show love to the ones we care about, but I would prefer we did that more than 1 day a year. So I'm not that into Valentine's Day... and no, I'm not single, though single people have good reason to hate it anyway. I don't need flowers or fancy dinners or gifts. I want the one thing you can't purchase, get back or return... time. I just want to spend time with the person I care about most, my husband. So tonight, rather than doing our usual routine of being in the same house but in different rooms, we will lock the door and simply spend time together. It's the best and only gift I want this year.

And for those of us who prefer humor to romance, click the picture below to see some awesome V-Day cards.

My First Movie Star Crush

I think that most girls first have a crush on boys closer to their age. I, however, am strange. I know now that I am a nerd, but when I was younger I just knew that I loved Star Wars. And what's not to love, really? I did not have a crush on Luke Skywalker (even though he does have an awesome last name). My first crush was on Han Solo or, more specifically, Harrison Ford. Apparently I had a thing for older men... and jerk attitudes.

Look at him in all his manly glory

Indiana Jones was another favorite. He was smart and tough and carried a whip. Indiana Jones got me interested in archaelolgy. And that hat. Seriously, it's amazing. He was just so rough and sexy. The funny thing was that I liked him and I liked to watch his movies, but when you're little you see things a different way. I didn't want to kiss him or anything, I just wanted to hang out and help him save the day. Plus I thought he was cute. Which (lets face the facts here) is a little disturbing to me now. But 27 year old me still agrees with 8 year old me... he was hot stuff.

Crack that whip, baby!

The Joy of Music

As I was driving home from work today, I did what I usually don't. I didn't sing along to the music. That 1/2 hour drive to and from work is my time to unwind and I usually do that by singing along to the radio as loud as I possibly can. It releases stress and calms me down. But today I just decided to stay quiet. I realized that after I learn the lyrics to a song I sing with it and I lose the love I had for the song when I first heard it. Every once and a while it's nice to simply let the song be sung.

Seriously, Santorum?

So Santorum says that women who get pregnant because of rape should "make the best out of a bad situation." If you haven't read the story, I've linked to it here.

Abortion is a touchy subject and I typically don't agree with it, but that is for people who have sex and have an "oops" pregnancy. But this is unwanted, forced and cruel. Women who are raped are already dealing with everything after the rape occurs and they should have the option on what to do. Why should someone who is raped have to live through another 9 months of pregnancy and damage to their bodies and go through the pain of childbirth? You would be forcing those victims to continue being victims and basically punishing them for something they had no control over.

I had a friend in school who felt the way Santorum does. My argument was, what if the girl raped is a child? Girls have started getting their periods earlier. Are you going to make a 13 year old girl give birth?

All I think is that women should have the choice. We are strong enough, brave enough and (most importantly) smart enough to be able to decide for ourselves.
